Our Story
Camarillo Barrel Works began as Cantara Cellars in 2002 as a private winery at Mike and Chris Brown’s Moorpark home. With their home located in the “Cantara” section of the Serenata development it only seemed fitting to name it “Cantara Cellars.”
Beginning with just 250 pounds of Chardonnay hand harvested from Mike’s parent’s vineyards in Lodi California, they fermented their first 18 gallons of wine. Over the next five years they carefully selected additional wine grape sources, increased their knowledge of winemaking, refined their wine style, expanded grape varieties, and increased production. This culminated with the opening of a wine production facility and public tasting room in October 2007. In 2018 they expanded ventures in developing Flatfish Brewing.
Today this unique enterprise is now owned and operated by Scott and Katie Ballew (founders and proprietors of Strey Cellars in Oxnard). Their mission is to craft the finest small-batch, hand-crafted wines, beers, and cocktails, delivering exceptional flavors and quality to the community. They are dedicated to providing a welcoming, family oriented atmosphere where every guest feels at home. As a reliable venue, they enrich customers’ experiences by regularly hosting live music events, fostering connection, celebration, and unforgettable moments for all who walk through the door.
