Camarillo Barrel Works is owned and operated by Scott and Katie Ballew, founders of Strey Cellars in Oxnard. Scott is a winemaker, brewer, and distiller with a hands-on approach to every craft. Together, Scott and Katie are building a place centered on well-made drinks, good food, live entertainment, and genuine hospitality.
Hand-crafted beer, wine, and spirits are available under one roof. Families are welcome. Sports are on. The stage stays busy. Whether you stop in for a glass or take over the barrel room for a wedding, the goal is simple: serve something good and make you want to come back.
Where Is Started
The story began in 2002, when Mike and Chris Brown made their first wine at their Moorpark home. They started with 250 pounds of hand-harvested Chardonnay from Mike’s parents’ vineyard in Lodi and produced just 18 gallons.
Over the next 5 years, they expanded their grape sources, refined their winemaking, and increased production. In October 2007, Cantara Cellars opened its Camarillo production facility and public tasting room.
Flat Fish Brewing Co. followed in 2018. The operation continued to grow across several connected units at 126 Wood Road, eventually bringing winery, brewery, and distillery licenses together in one facility.
Now under Scott and Katie’s ownership, Camarillo Barrel works is entering its next chapter. The foundation remains. The possibilities are getting bigger.
